What Does A Gallon Mean?
In both British Imperial and US Customary units, a gallon is a unit of volume and fluid. There are now three distinct sizes in use:
4 quarts, 8 pints, or 128 fluid ounces make up a gallon.
gallon is abbreviated as gal.
The term “gallon” comes from the Latin word “galleus” or “galena,” which means “container” or “big jar,” and was first used to describe a unit of wine output.
Gallons are a typical volume measurement in the United States. A gallon is divided into four quarts and 128 fluid ounces. A quart is equal to two pints or four cups, and a pint equals three cups. One pint equals 16 fluid ounces because one cup equals eight fluid ounces.
The Imperial system employs the same measurements as the Metric system, only instead of litres, it uses gallons, which are referred to as barrels (UK) or hogsheads (US) (US).
I’ll be using the American customary system for this conversion.
What Does An Ounce Mean?
An ounce is either a weight unit (dry ounce) or a volume unit (liquid ounce) (fluid ounce).
A fluid ounce (fluid oz.) is a measurement unit used in cooking, baking, nutrition, and pharmaceuticals for both liquid and dry components.
oz. fl. oz., fl. oz., or oz. fl. oz.
The conversions between Imperial and US Customary measurements differ just slightly.
1 fluid ounce (29.6 mL) in the United States
1 fluid ounce equals 28.4 millilitres in the United Kingdom.
The abbreviation for ounces is oz.
Fluid ounces are sometimes abbreviated as fl oz in recipes.
A fluid ounce is a liquid volume unit equal to one-eighth of a pint or one-third of a quart.
CONVERSIONS IN GENERAL
To begin started, here are some common liquid conversions:
1 US fluid quart = 2 pints = 4 cups = 32 fluid ounces = 950 mililitres in the United States.
4 quarts = 1 gallon
1 Imperial quart = 40 Imperial fluid ounces = 4+34 cups = 1.13 litres (UK conversion).
4 quarts = 8 pints = 16 cups = 128 fluid ounces = 1 gallon
64 US fluid ounces are included in a half gallon of water.
FORMULA MATHEMATICAL
Divide the volume by the conversion ratio to convert fluid ounces to gallons and vice versa.
Multiply your number by 128 to convert it from gallons to ounces (or divide it by 128 if you want the answer in ounces)
Gallon of fluid ounces:
Because 1 gallon equals 128 fluid ounces, the formula is x fluid ounces 128 = x gallons.
converting ounces to gallons
x gallons x 128 = x fluid ounces
Putting it another way:
To convert fluid ounces to gallons, multiply the ounces by 128.
To convert gallons to ounces, multiply by 128.

“How much is a gallon in ounces?” One of the most frequently asked questions about liquid measurements is this.
8 pints, 4 quarts, or 16 cups make up a gallon. A gallon contains 128 fluid ounces, which varies depending on whether you use Imperial or Metric measurements.
You now know what gallons and ounces are, as well as how to convert them mathematically.
