Season of the Construct has been officially launched for a week, and the arrival of the new season has also introduced a lot of new content to the game.
When I started playing the new season, I was overwhelmed with all these new and different types of currencies, Pearls, Stones, Cores and so on. So I thought it would be a good idea to make a guide explaining where they come from, what they are used for, and some general information about them.
Therefore, this guide aims to explain everything about the different types of currencies introduced in Diablo 4 Season 3 in an easy-to-understand manner. By following this guide, you can selectively buy Diablo 4 items to make your season journey smoother.
Also, this guide will also cover the new currencies coming in the January 26th patch, so you’ll be as up-to-date as possible. Until the next patch, of course. Without further ado, let’s get started!
Table of Contents
Shattered Stones
Starting with the basics, we have Shattered Stones. They are the most common of all the new currencies, and they drop like candies from any seasonal mobs in Overworld and Vaults.
In addition, when you pick up Tuning or Governing Stones that have reached the upper limit, you will also get many Shattered Stones. You can later convert these Shattered Stones into Tuning or Governing Stones again by spending Diablo 4 Gold.
As expected from a base currency, they are very versatile. They are required to enter Uber Malphas dungeon. But you can also use Shattered Stones to create a container with 50 Murmuring Obols, or another container with 2 random Tuning or Governing Stones. You also need them to summon Heralds of Malphas in Igneous Altars in the seasonal area.
Generally speaking, there should be no shortage of these stones. Although they are Diablo 4 items needed to fight Uber bosses and summon Heralds, it’s often the other materials that limit you in these activities.
Pearls Of Warding
Next, we have Pearls of Warding. These come from killing Heralds of Malphas in the overworld, and they can also be found in Vaults.
In World Tier 4, you can get 2 Pearls of Warding in the free completion chest at the end of Vaults. And since the patch, you can also get 2 of these from the chests that spawn after completing the 30 second survival gauntlet in the penultimate room of Vaults. You can also get some pearls from the gauntlet rooms in Uber boss dungeon, 2 for each wing.
Pearls of Warding have only one but very important purpose: when you click on Pedestal at the beginning of any Vaults, they give you Zoltun’s Warding Buff.
After the fix, each click on Pedestal will exchange one Pearl for 10 Zoltun’s Wardings. Then use them to open the chests at the end of Vaults, as well as the chests behind each wing and end of Uber Malphas dungeon. You’ll also lose a bunch of Zoltun’s Wardings if you get hit by a trap in Vaults, including some of the trap attacks in Uber Malphas fight.
Before the fix, Pearls of Warding only offered 3 stacks of Zoltun’s Wardings, and that also required entering Uber boss’ dungeon.
As patches change, you’ll earn more pearls of Warding than you spend while Vaults is running. So you should be able to open every chest in any Vaults without actually farming pearls from Heralds of Malphas. Of course, you can also choose to sell the extra pearls for additional Duriel Mats.
Elemental Cores
Next, we have Elemental Cores. They come from disabling different types of obelisks in seasonal areas. Obelisks will only drop one Cores when disabled. But Cores only have one purpose, so you don’t need that many.
Players can use Elemental Cores to summon Heralds of Malphas in Voltaic Braziers in seasonal outdoor areas.
Besides Cores, this process also requires Shattered Stones. But as I mentioned before, Shattered Stones are easier to farm. Elemental Cores will therefore be the key Diablo 4 item that limits the number of Malphas you can summon.
Igneous Cores
Finally, Igneous Cores are a new currency added in the January 26 patch. They come either from Heralds of Malphas summoned by Voltaic Braziers in the outdoor area, or from Son of Malphas, which are mini-bosses similar to Bucher that you can sometimes find in Vaults.
It’s worth noting that Sons of Malphas will always drop Igneous Cores, while Heralds of Malphas only have about a 50% chance of dropping them.
In terms of usage, Igneous Cores need to be used with Shattered Stones to enter Uber Malphas dungeon. It takes 7 each time to open the portal.
But getting 7 Igneous Cores is the limiting factor in farming Uber Malphas again and again. So for players who want to get Unique Turning Stones dropped by Malpha, these are ideal.
That’s it! I hope I could provide some useful information on the types of currencies you can master while playing Season of the Construct.
