An LED lamp is another way of saying LED bulb. You’ve probably heard both terms used but they are the same so don’t let it confuse you.
LED stands for light-emitting diode. These bulbs use a microchip to receive an electrical current that creates the illumination of tiny light sources (LEDs).
LED Lighting Is Efficient
LED bulbs are extremely efficient and use 80 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs. Their efficiency can substantially lower utility bills and save you money.

There are also dimmable LED bulbs to give you more control of your lighting. This can even add extra life to LEDs’ already impressive longevity.
How To Buy LEDs
Look at the lumens instead of watts when estimating the brightness of an LED bulb. This differs from how traditional bulbs have been purchased in the past.
For example, a traditional incandescent bulb would need to be 70 watts to produce 1,500 lumens (brightness). However, an LED bulb only takes 15 watts to produce the same 1,500 lumens.

Remember that cool whites resemble daylight and look white or bluer due to a higher color temperature. Warm lights have a lower temperature and look more yellow. Bright White is in between both cool white and warm.
If you plan to use your LED light with a dimmer switch it must be a dimmable bulb. Not all LEDs are dimmable so be sure to check the box before purchasing.
